One of the best things about Sonic CD is its soundtrack, what's interesting about said soundtrack though is how there's actually two soundtracks, one for the Japanese and PAL versions and one for the US version, the Japanese soundtrack is heavily influenced by 90's dance/rave music of the time while the US version is more atmospheric and rock-influenced, because of this, the game gives off a completely different vibe depending on which soundtrack you're listening to.
The reason for the soundtrack change is due to Sega of America somehow not liking the Japanese music and thinking that it wouldn't appeal to Americans, shit taste aside, in hindsight I'm glad this choice was made since I love the US soundtrack, I definitely prefer the Japanese soundtrack since I love 90's dance music and it's just more iconic but the US soundtrack has some great tracks as well!
Sonic CD has my favourite OST of any game, especially the 2011 remake where I can count both soundtracks together as one.
